Camille had her post NICU checkup today with the Special Infant Care Unit at WakeMed. All NICU babies have to have follow up developmental checkups with this group around 3-4 months and then again at 6 months.
Camille weighed in at 11lbs 8oz :) According to the premie growth chart, she is in the 50th percentile for weight and head circumference! Her height is in the 20th percentile- guess she is going to be petite like her mama! While her doctor's visits only compare her to the "normal" baby growth chart, the SICU said I should never be discouraged by those numbers since she is "special."
The developmental specialist spent some time with her checking head control, focus, behavior, etc. Camille sure put on a show! He was quite impressed with her "scooting." She even did a semi-rollover for him. He was shocked at how advanced she is in that aspect. He said she is right on track for development given her adjusted age is only 9ish weeks. He said we should always use her adjusted age for developmental progress (so normal age minus 6wks). The head control and focus is about where it should be, but he says all her movement is more ahead of the curve. He told me that she is very big for a premie :) Music to my hears!!
The doctor checked her out too and had the same response- she is doing GREAT! She loved how "smiley" Camille was. The doctor said Camille showed no signs that she was as breech as she was at birth, meaning everything they were concerned about has since corrected itself!
There is one spot on her head that shows that she has a tendancy to lay more toward one side. Nothing too be worried about, just something to keep an eye on and make sure we encourage her to lay her head toward both sides when she sleeps or plays on her back.
So all in all a great checkup- so great that we don't have to come back!! The usually don't "discharge" the NICU babies after only one follow up, but Camille is just that wonderful :)
